
On file in the Ulster County Clerk's Office are all civil and criminal records from the Supreme and County Courts in Ulster County. Copies of records are available to the public if they are not sealed documents. The following procedure can be followed to obtain copies:
Telephone requests are accepted for filing information for court records from July, 1987 to present.
Divorce files are available
to the plaintiff or defendant or their attorney of record. Divorce papers
can not be released to any other interested party. You may view or receive
copies of a divorce case by mailing in a notarized letter stating the
parties involved, the index number, the filing date and the type of records
sought. If you appear in person at our office you must have a drivers
license for identification
purposes.
Every case filed in the Ulster County Clerk's office has an index number assigned to it. The fee is $210.00 and must be accompanied by an Application for Index Number. This begins the civil proceeding.
A civil action may include court orders, affidavits, motions, summons and complaints all pertaining to the action and having the same index number. All papers filed must have the index number affixed to the front of the document. Please remember all documents submitted must be originals.
The Ulster County Clerk's Office has all criminal proceedings from the Supreme and County Courts in Ulster County filed in the office. Only felony convictions are filed with our office. All town, city and village proceedings are filed in the local court.
Sealed documents are only available to the attorney of record or the defendant otherwise a court order must be obtained. It is helpful if a filing date and index number is available when searching the records.
The Ulster County Clerk's Office houses naturalization records. These documents date from the 1800's to 1991. A search of these records is available through our office. The fee is $5.00 for every two years searched. You may also search naturalization records online.
These records are available from the Town, City of Village Clerk where the occurrence took place.
