Job Seeker Services

OET programs help job seekers identify and obtain the skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive economy. Consider your work and life experiences in new ways and relate your skills, interests, and needs to training options which will help you obtain the skills demanded by employers. Our services include:

Job Placement Assistance - Browse our bulletin board for job postings, civil service exam announcements and other job search materials. If OET eligible, meet with our On-the-Job Training Coordinator to discuss the latest OJT openings. For additional job listings, visit the Ulster County OneStop Job Center.

Career Assessment - Testing designed to provide a profile of a job seeker's vocational interests, goals, aptitudes, skills and academic levels, with specific recommendations on employment and training services that may be suitable.

Classroom Training - Classroom instruction offered at no charge to eligible OET clients to upgrade their skills or learn a new skill to achieve their career goals. Training is provided in occupations with a high potential for placement and retention into unsubsidized employment.  Classroom training programs are subject to change based on the local economy, local labor market conditions and the availability of Federal funding.

On-the-Job Training (OJT) - Eligible participants learn an occupational skill while earning a paycheck. The length of training is determined by the job’s complexity and training needs of the individual. Trainees receive full pay while the employers are reimbursed for up to 50% of the trainee’s wages during the OJT period, with the expectation the trainee will become a regular employee of the company upon successful completion of the training.

Customized Training Training is designed by the employer and OET can fund 50% of the costs. The employer is actively involved in curriculum review and design, competencies to be attained and participant selection criteria. Specific job skills training may be hands-on at the employer's site or may be more concept-based classroom training, or a combination of both.  Either may make use of appropriate educational institutions.  Customized training requires a commitment by the employer to hire/retain all those who successfully complete the program.
