October 23, 2008 - The Transportation Land Use Connection - At SUNY Ulster 7- 9:30 PM

This seminar involves two presentations. Part One covers the tools used to assess traffic impacts and methods beyond traffic impact studies used to achieve a balanced multi-modal transportation system, including examples from planning studies and generic environmental impact statements. Part Two discusses the relationship between development, traffic, and the overall quality of life in a community and provides practical examples of communities that have used their planning and regulatory authority to develop a transportation system that serves the communities’ broader objectives.

November 13, 2008 - SEQRA: Guiding the Process - SUNY Ulster 7- 9:30 PM

DEC SEQR and permitting staff will present a basic overview of SEQRA's foundations and decision-making requirements, focusing primarily on the application of SEQR to state and local permitting and approvals. The program allows time for and encourages question from attendees.

November 20, 2008 - Zoning Board of Appeals Overview - UC Office Bldg., Kingston 7 - 9:30 PM

This course will address the powers and duties of zoning board of appeals and its interrelationships with enforcement officials, the municipal planning board, and county planning agencies. Instructors will provide information on the statutory requirements relating to the issuance of use and area variances and the handling of zoning interpretations. Board procedures will also be discussed, as will the importance of making good findings.
