Ulster County Legislature Approves Shovel Ready Fund Application

At the May 9th, session of the Ulster County Legislature, legislators took the first official action towards a resolution approving the shovel ready fund application from the City of Kingston. The purpose of the application will allow the City of Kingston to enter into a disbursement agreement with the Ulster County Development Corporation.

"The Shovel Ready Fund is an investment in the future of Ulster County," said Ward Todd, Legislative Chairman. "It is a complement to the financial and technical assistance the county and UCDC already provides and will aid our existing businesses while also enhancing our opportunities to attract new commercial and industrial development to Ulster County.

The agreement was entered into by three individual agencies. Ulster County, Ulster County Industrial Development Agency and Ulster County Development Corporation. The Ulster County Development Corporation will administer the funds.

The "Shovel Ready Fund" was established in November 2001 for the purpose of economic development with in Ulster County. The County is desirous of enhancing job creation and retention of employment within its municipal boundaries. The City of Kingston is the first municipality to take advantage of the Shovel Ready Fund
