FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 19, 2002

Ulster County Legislature Chairman Ward D. Todd today announced that he has accepted the resignation of the STOP-DWI Coordinator. Mary McMickle is retiring effective September 2, 2002 due to health concerns (complete statement from Ms. McMickle to follow).

In accepting her resignation, Chairman Todd said, "I will truly miss Mary’s hard work and dedication, and the impact she has had on the STOP DWI Program. Ulster County is known to be the premier STOP DWI Program in New York State and the Northeast, due primarily to the hard work of Mary McMickle."

Chairman Todd has appointed Town of Ulster Police Officer John Miller as the new STOP DWI Coordinator. Mr. Miller has been a D.A.R.E. instructor and consultant to the STOP DWI Impact Panel. (Resume to follow).

Chairman Todd said, "I am confident that John Miller will do a tremendous job as Coordinator. His familiarity with the program and the work he has done with our school children has given him an excellent understanding of our STOP DWI Program. He is well respected by the police community, and I know that our program will not skip a beat as we make this transition. I wish him the best in this position and look forward to continued success in our efforts to stop drinking and driving in Ulster County."
