FROM: ULSTER COUNTY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE DATE: June 25, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 25, 2002 Ulster County Continues Its Bid For the "River and Estuaries Center for Research and Education" The Ulster County Tourism Office initiated a powerful grand finale on behalf of the County to have the Rivers and Estuaries Center for Research and Education located here. The office orchestrated the creation of a "Special Report" in the Legislative Gazette. The Legislative Gazette is the weekly newspaper of the New York State government and is published in Albany, New York. It is distributed through the State Capital and the Legislative office buildings. "The purpose of the ‘Special Report’ was to fully demonstrate just how much interest and desire there is in the County to have this center located here in Ulster", stated Ulster County Tourism Director Peter Carofano. The "Special Report" gives a detailed step-by-step presentation of Ulster County’s efforts over the past two years to convince Governor Pataki and his Site Selection Committee that Ulster County is where the center needs to be," Carofano continued. Additional thanks should be given to the wide range of businesses that chose to advertise in the Special Report and continue to support the County’s efforts in its bid to obtain the Center. The announcement of the location is supposed to happen sometime this summer. The Tourism Office had to complete the Special Report before June 20th, which was the tentative date for state officials to break for the summer. "We wanted to be sure that this edition was in the hands of all state officials before the summer break, and that they were aware of Ulster County’s efforts," stated Patty Jacobsen, Deputy Director for Ulster County Tourism. "I have to give most of the credit for the Special Report to Patty Jacobsen," stated Carofano. "Patty took the bull by the horns and made sure all the bases were covered. Also, I would like to thank Glenn Gidaly, President of Shingebiss Associates Inc., and Peter Fairweather, AICP Principal of Saratoga Associates, for their assistance and expertise they gave us to complete the Special Report. Also contributing to the Special Report with articles were Herbert Hekler, Director of Ulster County Planning Board, and Nikki Koenig of Shingebiss Associates," concluded Carofano. |
