FROM: ULSTER COUNTY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE DATE: October 1, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OCTOBER 1, 2002
The official groundbreaking for the new Ulster County Law Enforcement Center took place this week at a 16-acre site off Route 32 in Kingston. Fawn Tantillo, Chairman of the Jail Study Committee, commended all the people who have worked on this project. "Everyone, including our County employees, members of the Study Committee, the engineers and the architect, have worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition", stated Legislator Tantillo. Chairman Ward Todd noted that the facility would be complete in approximately 18 months. "This is six months less than originally anticipated and will give us additional savings of $500,000, absent the need to board out inmates during those six months. This is in addition to the $2 million we expect to save every year," continued Todd, "and we will finally be in compliance with the New York State Commission of Corrections’ mandates." Among those attending the ceremony were Chairman Todd, Legislators Fawn Tantillo, Richard Gerentine, Frank Dart, Gerald DePew, Alice Tipp, John Naccarato, Brian Hathaway, Ed Jennings, Albert Meyer, Joan Feldmann, Barbara Santoro, Wayne Harris, Glenn Noonan, and Alan Lomita. Clerk of the Works Brian Cunningham, architect Joseph Roblee from Crandall & Associates, and Richard Scaife from Bovis were also present. |
