Busick has announced that the "Alfonso Family" has established a scholarship fund in memory of fellow Legislator Daniel L. Alfonso. Two five hundred dollar scholarships have been established for the Highland and Marlboro High Schools for 2003. These awards will be given to exemplary students who have performed community service, participated in sports and other school activities and plan to further their education for a career in government or health services. Danny Alfonso was a 48-year Highland resident, who served nine years on the Highland Board of Education, including one year as president. Danny volunteered for, raised money for and served on the boards of St. Augustine Parish; American Legion Post 193; Highland Little League; Highland Chamber of Commerce; United Way; Rip Van Winkle Council of the Boy Scouts; the Lions Club and the Town of Lloyd Historical Society. Danny Alfonso’s dedication to volunteerism and fund-raising was legendary. Danny was a very kind, giving and loving man, who gave so much of himself to the communities of Lloyd and Marlboro.
