FROM: ULSTER COUNTY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE DATE: August 15, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 15, 2003 Ulster County Chairman praises County Residents and Emergency Service Organizations for their strength and resolve during the "2003 Blackout." Ulster County Legislature Chairman Richard A. Gerentine wants to commend the residents of Ulster County for their cooperation in limiting their travel and their patience during this time of inconvenience. "During our nation’s worst blackout ever, Ulster County remained calm and in control," stated Chairman Gerentine. "Now that things seem to be getting back to normal, I would like to acknowledge the following people for their ability to stay focused during the 2003 Blackout; Art Snyder, Director, Bruce Kirkpatrick, Deputy Director and the entire staff of the Ulster County Emergency Communications/Emergency Management department. Sheriff J. Richard Bockelmann and the entire Ulster County Sheriff staff. William Darwak, County Administrator and the entire Administration staff; Randall Roth, Clerk of the Legislature, Gerard Defelicis, Marie Barry and Patty Jacobsen all Deputy Clerks of the Legislature, Ellen Difalco, Karen Osen, and Kara Aiello Legislative staff members." Chairman Gerentine also gives a special thanks to all of Ulster Counties Fire Departments, all Ambulance Organizations, Local and State Police Departments for all their hard efforts during this ordeal. "I would especially like to thank Central Hudson for their efforts in having most of Ulster County and our surrounding areas back with power as soon as they did. There were areas in our county that had power as early as 7:00 P.M.," continued Chairman Gerentine. Chairman Gerentine has been notified by Central Hudson, that during the course of today different areas in the county may experience short-term power interruptions. The directive comes as a continuation of efforts to restore power across the county in the aftermath of yesterday’s widespread power interruptions. "I urge all residents to conserve and minimize energy where ever possible, thank you for your cooperation," concludes Chairman Gerentine. |
