Highlights of August 12, 2004 Legislative Session

At the August 12, 2004 Session of the Ulster County Legislature, legislators appointed David Sheeley as Commissioner of Highways and Bridges. Sheeley is currently the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Marbletown. "I want to welcome David to the position of Commissioner of Highways and Bridges. The Administration Office and myself will be there to assist him in his transition", stated Chairman Gerentine.

In other legislative business, legislators unanimously passed a resolution authorizing Chairman Gerentine to create an Ulster County Charter Commission. The Commission is composed of the following eleven people: Gerald Benjamin (will chair the commission). Thomas Roach, Calvin Cunningham, John Dwyer, Louis Klein, Renee Sachs, Everton Henriquez, Rev. Julius Collins, Caroline Kuhlman, Marianne Collins and Michael Catalinotto. The Commission will prepare studies of the alternative structures and processes through which Ulster County may be governed. It will present a full report no later than December 2005.

Chairman Gerentine called upon Legislator Albert Meyer, Chairman of the Criminal Justice/Public Safety/DWI Committee and Robert Sudlow, Director of the Ulster County Probation Department to present a Pride of Ulster County Award to Kimberly Lapp in recognition of being the recipient of the 2004 Award of Honor issued by the New York State Probation Officers Association.

Chairman Gerentine then called upon Legislators, Donaldson, Loughran, Provenzano, Dart and Maloney to present a Pride of Ulster County Award to Michael Hein, Deputy County Treasurer, for his efforts in obtaining funding for the Oil Tank Art Project for the Historic Kingston Rondout Creek and Hudson River.

The next meeting of the Ulster County Legislature will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2004, 7:00 P.M. in the Legislative Chambers, Sixth Floor, Ulster County Office Building, 244 Fair Street, Kingston, New York.
