FROM: ULSTER COUNTY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE DATE: August 31, 2004 For Immediate Release August 31, 2004 STORMS HIT HARD ON ROUTE 209 CORRIDOR Ulster County’s Route 209 corridor suffered extensive damages from a hard hitting storm last evening between the hours of 6:00PM and 10:00PM. The storm dumped four to five inches of rain causing flooding, washouts, culvert damage, sporadic power outages, fallen trees and road closures. "Route 209 was temporarily closed from the intersection of Route 209 and Route 213 East in Stone Ridge to Route 209 and Lucas Avenue in Accord." Ulster County Legislator Chairman Richard A. Gerentine voiced his concern: "As a result of the storm, the Ulster County Emergency Management Office has been in contact with local municipalities to assist them in keeping roads open and securing the safety of our residents." Other reports consisted of extensive damage to Eagles Nest Road as well as flooding in the City of Kingston. "Ulster County Fire Coordinators and Emergency Management staff spent most of the night assisting local fire departments with the aforementioned problems caused by the storm," stated Emergency Management Deputy Director Bruce Kirkpatrick. Ulster County Highway Department, local Town Highway Departments and the New York State Department of Transportation as well as Central Hudson are working vigorously to repair any damage.
