FROM: ULSTER COUNTY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE DATE: November 19, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 18, 2004 Ulster County Announces Acceptance of FEMA Appeals Ulster County Legislative Chairman Richard A. Gerentine, is pleased to announce Ulster County has received notice that two of Ulster County’s appeals have been accepted. First is the Individual Assistance program for FEMA-1364-DR-NY regarding the late August storm that caused tremendous flooding in uptown Kingston. Ulster County was originally denied individual assistance for the August 29-Sept 16 storm. This is when the people of uptown Kingston were especially hard hit by torrential rains. The successful appeal will now allow these residents to apply for assistance under the Individual Assistance program (as always, they must go through their own insurer first). The second appeal has a much greater impact on Ulster County Government. We had already secured Public Assistance for this storm, and needed to have the date pushed back to mid August. "Being successful at this appeal meant that significant damages incurred to County infrastructure in Denning will now be eligible for reimbursement," stated Chairman Gerentine. |
