Ulster County Planning To Hold Seminar Series

The Ulster County Planning Board is sponsoring two free seminars on the topics of subdivisions and the different strategies to support housing development. The meetings will take place on Tuesday, October 25th and on Monday, November 14th from 7:00 – 9:30 PM in the Chambers of the Ulster County Legislature, on the 6th Floor of the County Office Building located at 244 Fair Street, Kingston, New York.

On October 25th, the seminar will cover what is known as conservation subdivisions, a form of cluster development which redistributes development on a site in a manner that preserves important environmental, historical, and aesthetic features. The guest speakers will be Lori Heithoff, AICP – Land Use Specialists – and Harry Willis Esq., NYS Department of State – Associate Attorney.

The November 14th session will include discussions on the current economics of housing within Ulster County and the tools available to address affordability and choice at various government levels to ensure a healthy mixture of development. This particular program is based on the recently completed "Strategies Report" which was researched by the Ulster County Housing Consortium. Presenters of information will be Ulster County Planning Board Director Dennis Doyle, and Rural Ulster Preservation Executive Director Kevin O’Connor.

Any questions or comments regarding this matter should contact the Ulster County Planning Board at (845) 340-3340. Specific questions on the seminar topics may be forwarded to planning@co.ulster.ny.us
