The Ulster
County Mental Health Department (UCMHD) is designated under New York State
Mental Hygiene Law as the oversight body for publicly funded services to
mentally ill, chemically dependent and developmentally disabled persons.
In addition, the department is licensed by the New York State
Office of Mental Health and the New York State Office of Alcoholism and
Substance Abuse Services to provide outpatient
mental health, drug and alcohol clinic treatment services for children,
families and adults. The
mission of the department's clinical service is to promote hope,
recovery and healthy development for people with mental health and
substance abuse problems so that they may achieve the best quality of life
possible. The department also
contracts with not-for-profit agencies for the provision of a variety of
other mental health, drug and alcohol services, as well as services for
the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled.
UCMHD
specializes in the provision of a comprehensive range of services for
at-risk populations, including seriously mentally ill adults, seriously
emotionally disturbed children, adolescents, young adults and adults with
co-occurring disorders, and individuals suffering from persistent
substance abuse. Services are
provided to individuals mandated into treatment by the courts.
Due to financial support from the State and County, the department
is able to accept virtually all methods of payment.
Reasonable out-of-pocket fees are based on the individual's or
