Charter Revision Commission

The Charter Revision Commission is an independent, 11-member body convened at least once every ten years to review and recommend amendments, additions, or revisions to the Ulster County Charter. Members are appointed by the County Executive and legislative leaders to reflect the County’s geographic and demographic diversity, while current employees and elected officials are prohibited from serving. The Commission holds public hearings, consults community and expert input, and issues a final report to the County Executive and Legislature within one year. By a two-thirds vote, it may also place certain amendments directly before voters at a general election. The most recent Commission was formed in 2022, continuing the County’s commitment to transparent and participatory governance.
