Emergency Response

Focused on readiness and resilience, Ulster County is committed to strengthening emergency services and supporting the first responders who protect our community every day.

From investing in modern facilities and equipment to advancing training and collaboration across agencies, we are prioritizing preparedness, safety and rapid response — ensuring that residents have the critical support they need when it matters most.

Emergency Communications Center

A new 16,350-square-foot Emergency Communications Center is under construction on Paradies Lane in New Paltz, with completion expected in 2027. The state-of-the-art facility will replace outdated, weather-vulnerable infrastructure with a resilient, energy-efficient design.

EMS Plan

Ulster County's EMS plan, the "EMS Stabilization & Enhancement Plan," addresses service gaps and workforce shortages. The plan involves a multi-million-dollar investment and coordination with local agencies to create a more reliable and sustainable emergency medical services system.

Emergency Communications Network

The County is working on an emergency communications systems upgrade to address the existing gaps and a lack of coverage to meet the needs of emergency service providers who are serving County residents.

Project SAFE

Ulster County's Project SAFE is a voluntary emergency alert program that allows individuals, families and caregivers of residents with cognitive or developmental conditions to submit personal and behavioral information to the County's secure 911 dispatch system, triggering a special alert to notify first responders during an emergency.

Medical Reserve Corps

The Ulster County Medical Reserve Corps is an all-volunteer network that supports local health and emergency services during public health emergencies, disasters, and community health events.

Ulster County Launches Project SAFE to Enhance Emergency Response

The Ulster County Department of Emergency Services is proud to announce the launch of Project SAFE (Special Alert For Emergencies), a new initiative designed to improve emergency response for individuals with Autism, Down syndrome, Alzheimer’s, and other cognitive or developmental conditions, as well as blindness and deafness/hearing loss.

Ulster County EMS Plan Gets Green Light from Legislature

The EMS Stabilization and Enhancement Plan developed by the Ulster County Department of Emergency Services at the direction of County Executive Jen Metzger was approved by the Ulster County Legislature during Tuesday’s session in a bipartisan vote of 21 to 0.

State Approves Certification for County to Coordinate EMS Services

On Thursday, May 15, Ulster County received a Municipal Ambulance Service Operating Certificate of Need (Muni-CON) from the New York State Department of Health, which will enable the County Department of Emergency Services to play a facilitative role in extending contracts with existing providers to underserved areas of the County.
