Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger Invited to Testify at State Senate Roundtable on New York’s Climate Target

KINGSTON, NY - Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger was asked to provide testimony and participate in a virtual roundtable on Monday convened by New York State Senators Liz Krueger and Pete Harckham, the Chairs of the Senate Finance and Environmental Conservation Committees, respectively, to discuss steps that need to be taken to meet the emissions reduction targets of the NYS Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). Senator Michelle Hinchey also participated in the roundtable discussion with local leaders.

County Executive Metzger emphasized the need for stronger state support to help communities meet emissions reduction targets affordably and equitably. “Ulster County is committed to doing its part — we’re electrifying government fleets and buildings, improving energy efficiency, and investing in renewable energy to meet our electricity needs cleanly and locally, but to meet emissions reduction targets on a community- and economy-wide basis, the state is going to have to step up efforts to support the clean energy transition affordably and equitably.”

County Executive Metzger’s full testimony is attached to this press release.
