Assigned Counsel (18B)

The Assigned Counsel Program, established by Article 18-B of NY County Lawprovides high quality legal representation to individuals in Ulster County who are unable to afford counsel in various Criminal and Family Court matters where the Public Defender has a conflict.

We deliver competent and professional legal representation to indigent clients in Ulster County’s Criminal and Family Courts. We protect the constitutional rights of each individual from arraignment through final disposition and appeal. We strive for fairness and justice for all, regardless of financial circumstance.

18-B Attorneys

We are committed to supporting our participating attorneys in zealously advocating on behalf of their clients and meeting the quality standards of our program.

We develop and monitor programs and policies, standards and operational procedures regarding qualifications for appointment to the panel, recruitment, guidelines for the administrative responsibilities of panel attorneys, and supervision of attorney caseloads and quality of representation. We also review and approve all voucher submitted by panel attorneys to the County for payment.
