KINGSTON, NY - Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger today announced a significant expansion of Warming Center operations for the 2026–2027 winter season, strengthening the County’s ability to provide safe, reliable overnight shelter throughout the coldest months.

Beginning Thursday, October 1 through November 30, the Kingston Warming Center will operate nightly from 7 PM to 9 AM, regardless of temperature. Starting Tuesday, December 1 through March 31, 2027, the Kingston site will shift to full 24-hour continuous activation, providing uninterrupted shelter throughout the winter.

“Expanding warming center hours is essential to keeping our most vulnerable residents safe, and I’m grateful to our partners who make this work possible,” said Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger. “This year, we are piloting an earlier opening of the Kingston Warming Center and will evaluate expanding service even further. Our goal is to ensure that anyone in crisis has a safe place to go, no matter the season.”

“The Warming Center has provided a vital resource for our most at-risk residents and has been managed extremely well by the County’s not-for-profit partner,” said Kingston Mayor Steve Noble. “We are appreciative of the County’s fall expansion.”
