Register your Hotel/Motel/Short-Term Rental

Operators of hotels, motels, and short-term rentals in Ulster County are required by County Law to register with the Department of Finance. Following registration, occupants are issued a Certificate of Authority to collect occupancy taxes.  

  • Operators must register no later than three days after commencing business.
  • There is no cost to register.

Step 2.Submit Registration Form

There is no cost to register for a Certificate of Authority to collect tax.

Mail your completed form to:

Or email the completed form to str-tax@ulstercountyny.gov.

Step 3.Receive Certificate of Authority

Once your application is received and verified, you will be issued a Certificate of Authority to collect the 4% Ulster County Hotel and Motel Room Occupancy Tax.

Display your Certificate of Authority where it will be seen and noticed by all occupants and persons seeking occupancy at your lodging.
