The Preventative Services unit offers support to families to prevent the need for out-of-home placements (foster care). The goal is to help parents and caregivers become self-sufficient, providing an environment where children can thrive.
The majority of Preventative Services cases are opened through Child Protective Services and have court-ordered mandated services. Other cases are opened through referrals from a variety of community sources, including but not limited to schools, neighbors, community agencies and self-referrals.
Services include:
- Casework counseling
- Parenting skills training
- Assistance with maintaining housing
- Substance abuse/mental health referrals
- Community-based services
