Regulating Tobacco Sales to Youth

Almost all adults who smoke cigarettes started in their teens. Public Health Law 13-F, known as the Adolescent Tobacco Use Prevention Act (ATUPA), regulates the sale of tobacco and vaping products to restrict their access by youth and young adults. ATUPA violations can result in civil penalties or retailer registration suspension or revocation.

UC Tobacco Retail Licensing Law Information

In 2015, Ulster County adopted a Local Law that requires all businesses who sell, or who wish to sell, any form of tobacco products to obtain a County license. The law further states that no new licenses may be granted to a tobacco retailer located within 1000' of any K-12 school in Ulster County.
